Charles Owens
Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and National Police Canine Association (NPCA) Canine Team Evaluator
Charles began his law enforcement career at the Gainesville Police Department 2003. In 2006 he became a handler and worked with his partner K9 Justice until his retirement in 201ti. Charles became the unit trainer in 2011 and has trained both multiple teams for his agency, as well as several other agencies. In 2015 Charles was promoted to Corporal, but stayed on the unit as the full-time trainer. In 2017 Charles was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Patrol Division as a sector Sergeant, but was soon brought back to supervise the Canine Unit. He is currently the Canine Unit Supervisor and is in charge of the unit’s training in addition with being tasked with the responsibility of the day-to-day operations of running a unit consisting of seven dual purpose dogs and two single purpose dogs.
