K9S UNITED BOARD MEMBER and Vice President
Sgt. JAY nix & k9 drago
Jay is an active-duty Law Enforcement Officer and has served with the Marion County, FL Sheriff’s Office since 2000. He knew early on he wanted to be a K9 handler and was assigned to the K9 Unit as a Handler in 2002.
During his time as a handler, he was assigned to the patrol division, a joint agency narcotics task force, followed by an assignment to a highway criminal interdiction unit, where he led the unit as the team’s commander and Sergeant. He also held the position as the Patrol Division K9 Unit Commander and the agency’s head K9 trainer.
Jay is also a certified law enforcement K9 Instructor and evaluator. He is currently assigned to the patrol division with his agency as a shift supervisor, after retiring his 4th and final working dog, K9 Drago. K9 Drago retired in 2021, where he’s now enjoying his retirement as a K9s United Ambassador.
Jay also serves as a Board Member and the Vice President of K9s United, where he not only leads our training team, but also helps the organization in its daily operations.
